< PreviousTy Sampson Video Coordinator Ty Sampson, joined the UofL men’s basketball staff as video coordinator in April 2018 after working five years in a simlar capacity at Xavier. ““Most video coordina- tors know how to edit video,” said UofL Coach Chris Mack, “but Ty knows how to fix an entire building when it goes off-line. He’s that good. He works his tail off and will do anything he can to help our players and coaches. I’m very fortunate to have brought Ty with me from Xavier.” Sampson’s primary responsibilities include assist- ing in the program’s video operations, including game video breakdown, coordinating film exchange, creating team highlight videos, advance scouting of opponents and helping Louisville players with individual video needs. Sampson also assists the coaching staff in limited on-court activities during practice, advance scouting, on-campus recruiting and team academics. Sampson became Xavier’s first fulltime video coor- dinator for men’s basketball in 2013 after graduating from the University of Illinois in 2013 with a degree in finance. Sampson worked with the Illinois basketball program as an undergraduate, assisting with video operations, scouting, camps and other duties. He earned a master’s degree in business administration at Xavier in 2015. Matt Stebbins Assistant Equipment Manager Matt Stebbins is in his second year on UofL head coach Chris Mack’s staff as equipment manager for men’s basketball after two years as the Operations Manager and Brand Builder for the Worcester Bravehearts baseball club. “Matt was an undergraduate student manager for me at Xavier for four years a few years back,” said Mack. “Matt is as loyal as they come. He’s an incredibly hard worker and passionate about doing more than his area requires. He will be all in on Louisville Basketball.” Stebbins managed the ballpark staff members, team merchandise and donations for community events for the Bravehearts, a summer collegiate baseball team located in Worcester, Mass. The team participates in the seven-team Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) with a 56-game schedule. Prior to his stint in Worcester, he spent two sum- mers as an equipment assistant with the Cincinnati Bengals and served as the Bravehearts’ Clubhouse Manager in 2015. Originally from Sturbridge, Mass., Stebbins earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management at Xavier in 2016 with a minor in business. He worked four years as an undergraduate as a program assis- tant under Mack, assisting with the coordination of team apparel and management of the team locker room as a member of the team travel party. Carlisle is responsible for the creative video and post production needs of the men’s basketball program, including designing and producing motion graphics and videos used across multiple platforms, social media strategy, recruiting initiatives, and maintaining a working video archive of all team highlights and events. Before joining the Cardinals’ staff, he worked six years at Kentucky, where he worked primarily with the Wildcats’ men’s basketball program in addition to contributing to the overall UK sports video department. A native of Frankfort, Ky., Carlisle’s video edit of UK’s victory at West Virginia won second place nationally in the Highlight Video category at the 2018 SAVVY Awards, presented by the Collegiate Sports Video Association. His 2016 Florida game highlight video also won the Ultimate SAVVY Award in the basketball category as the best video of the year. To support production for the network, the University of Louisville built a television production facility on the northeast corner of its campus to house all the equipment and personnel that is necessary to origi- nate live programming. UofL’s 2018 production of “Louisville Live,” a preseason basketball event, won a national 2019 SVG College Sports Media Award as the best col- legiate Outstanding Live Non-Game Production. The 7,850 square foot production facility was completed in September 2018 and is connected by fiber to UofL athletic venues and to ESPN. Instead of mobile trucks covering sporting events, live programming will be originated from the new centralized production facility. The $8 million project included construction, equipment and integration, and fiber connection to UofL venues. The broadcast center includes two full video control rooms for linear telecasts which will air on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or the ACC Network. Those two control rooms and three additional scaled back control rooms allow for live telecasts of multiple events that may either overlap, or are concurrently played to air on multiple television platforms. With fiber connections to each venue, the broad- cast center also produces live, in-game content for UofL venue video walls such as those in Cardinal Stadium, Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium, KFC Yum! Center, Jim Patterson Stadium and Ulmer Field. The UofL Athletics Broadcast Center is connected by fiber to ESPN. The production facility includes a bureau studio, which allows coaches and players to do live inter- views on any ESPN platform or broadcast channels. Also included in the center is a versatile studio with variable sets and a full green screen wall, person- nel work space and editing rooms. The Cardinals also maintain a television production mobile unit for venues that are not connected by fiber to the broadcast center. The center is used for the creation of not only ACC Network and ESPN content, but for other video projects in support of the athletics department as well. The broadcast center also provides educa- tional opportunities for UofL students. 60 University of Louisville n gocards.com UofL Athletics Broadcast Center 201 9-20 B A SKETB ALLLouisville Cardinals No. Name Pos. Major is communication. n Personal goal at UofL is to make the academic honor roll and to graduate with a degree. n Enjoys music production in his spare time. n Best moment of his athletic career to date was making it to March Madness. n Chose to attend UofL because of “the opportunity here for success academically and athletically.” n His parents have had the greatest influence on his athletic career. n Feels Shaquille O’Neal would be the best actor to play him in a movie. n Chose to wear No. 23 because it was his father’s first basketball number. n Few people know that he likes to make music. n Most proud of his team. n Best basketball advice given to him was “time waits for no man.” n When he played basketball as a kid, he pretended he was Kevin Durant. n If you walked into his dorm room, the first thing you would notice are his posters and jerseys. n Best thing about being a Cardinal is the UofL fan base. n What impresses him the most about Coach Mack is “his legacy.” Favorites: n Basketball Player: Anthony Davis n NBA Team: New York Knicks n Athlete, other than a basketball player: Floyd Mayweather n Movies: In Too Deep, Paid in Full, The Equalizer n TV Shows: Bob’s Burgers, The Office, Family Guy n Actor: Samuel L.
