In the original Pavilion, the Villanova men’s players descended through an end zone bleacher that held 1,500 students to recognize that the student-athletes represented the entirety of the student body. In the redesigned Finneran Pavilion, the Villanova team runs directly in front of the main student section as continued evidence of the strong bond that exists. THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT At the conclusion of a Villanova home game - win or lose - the Wildcats appear before the student section as a unit with their fingers raised in the sign of a “V” to say thanks to the Nova Nation for bringing the energy to the Cats home court. FAREWELL SENIORS The “Senior Night” tradition is a long- standing one in college athletics. At Villanova, that celebration expands to include not just the student-athletes and their families, but all of Villanova’s seniors through a pre-game reception and ticket priority for the graduating class. 2019 -20 M EDIA GUIDE UNIQUELY VILLANOVAAS PART OF THE ANNUAL ST. A DONOR FUNDED $65 MILLION RENOVATION BEGAN IN MAY 2017 AND WAS COMPLETED IN OCTOBER 2018. NOW AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS “THE FINN”, THE BUILDING OFFERS ONE OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL’S MOST UNIQUE HOME COURT ADVANTAGES. Villanova Basketball and the entire campus community entered a new era on Oct. 5, 2018 with the official opening of the Finneran Pavilion. Villanova Athletics partnered with EwingCole, an award-winning archi- tecture and engineering firm based in Philadelphia, to transform the Pavilion from a multi-purpose and recreational facility into a world-class basketball-cen- tric arena. The renovation celebrates the uniqueness of the original arena – which opened on Feb. 1, 1986 – while creating an unmatched Division I basketball expe- rience for Villanova student-athletes and fans. The upgrades include McMahon Way, an outdoor plaza for pre-game and post-game activities; a relocated main entrance that will serve as a gathering place for fans; a Hall of Fame, with graph- ics and memorabilia celebrating the rich history of Villanova; a 360-degree con- course hosting a variety of concessions, merchandise stands and other fan ame- nities. The Finneran Pavilion is named in honor of alumnus, William B. Finneran, who made a $22.6 million leadership gift to support renovations to the Pavilion. Finneran, a 1963 Villanova graduate with an Economics degree, is a longtime supporter of the University, serving for a decade as a member of the Board of Trustees and as a co-chair for the University’s previous capital campaign. He is a Founding Partner of EXOP Capital LLC, a long/short hedge fund firm based in New York City, and is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Edison Control Corporation. In the 31 seasons the Wildcats compet- ed in the original venue, Villanova com- piled a 293-62 (.825) record and a 128- 41 mark (.757) in BIG EAST Conference games. There were two lengthy winning streaks in the facility, lasting 48 and 46 games. The 48 game stretch began in February 2013 and ended with a loss to Butler on Feb. 22, 2017. The 46 game streak began on Jan. 17, 2007 and con- tinued through Feb. 12, 2011. In their final season prior to the renova- tion, Villanova was 10-1. It closed out the original Pavilion with a 79-63 victory over Creighton that secured the BIG EAST regular season title. Villanova posted an 8-2 record in its first season of action in “the Finn” and extended a consecutive regular season sellout streak to 183 games. That run dates to December 2000. The Finneran Pavilion’s seating capac- ity is officially listed at 6,501. The one additional seat beyond the original listed capacity recognizes the Lone Chair pro- gram, honoring war veterans who were lost or missing in action. William B. THE WILDCATS HAVE HOSTED HOME GAMES IN PHILADELPHIA IN EVERY SEASON SINCE 1950. THE CENTER WILL BE THE SITE OF SEVEN WILDCATS HOME GAMES IN 2019-20 The Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia is Villanova’s home away from home and the site of some of its most exciting victories in recent seasons. Originally branded as the Core States Center - and later as the Wachovia Center - the facility has hosted Villanova games in every season since 1996-97. Prior to that, the Wildcats had used The Spectrum as a home court for selected home games each season. With the Finneran Pavilion undergo- ing a renovation in 2017-18, the Wells Fargo Center served as the Wildcats homecourt in its NCAA championship season. The Wildcats hosted 12 games at the Center, posting an 11-1 record that included a sellout crowd of 20,603 for the Wildcats’ 86-76 victory over Butler on Feb. 10, 2018. The Wildcats were 5-0 games at the Center in ‘18-19. Over the last six seasons, Villanova is 30-3 at the Center (.892). In addition to hosting the Wildcats, the facility has served as an NCAA Tournament site five times in its history (2001, 2006, 2009, 2013, 2016). The Wells Fargo Center has under- gone upgrades of its own in the off- season including new seating, improve- ments on the concourse and a new scoreboard. . It serves as the home of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers. The Center hosted the 2001 NBA Finals, the 2002 NBA All-Star Game and the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals. The building features a unique oval design which ensures no obstructed view seats for all 20,456 fans.
