Center UofL, KFC Yum! Center and Galt House Hotel will serve as host for a men’s basketball event that will include nine participating teams who will play 16 games over a 10-day stretch from Nov. 25 through Dec. 4, 2020. The field of 10 teams includes eight 20-game winners from a year ago, seven teams that won or finished second in their respec- tive conferences, and a group that collectively won two-thirds of their games last season (203- 110 record in 2019-20). The participating teams are Duquesne (21-9 in 2019-20, fifth in Atlan- tic 10), Evansville (9-23, 10th in Missouri Valley Conference); UNC Greensboro (23-9, third in Southern Conference); Little Rock (21-10, Sun Belt Champions); Louisville (24-7, tied for second in ACC), Loyola (21-11, second in Missouri Valley Conference), Prairie View A&M (19-13, SWAC Champions); Seton Hall (21-9, BIG EAST Co-Champion); West- ern Kentucky (20-10, tied for second in Conference USA); and Winthrop (24-10, Big South Co- Champion). The Wade Houston Tipoff Classic will be the designated multi-team event and will incor- porate two games each from eight of the participants. Each of the remaining games in Louisville during the stretch will serve as regular, non-conference games on each team’s schedule. West- ern Kentucky is playing three games outside of the multi-team event. The namesake for the event was one of the first three Afri- can American basketball play- ers to sign with UofL, a group which included Houston, Sam Smith and Eddie Whitehead. It was the first instance in which a predominantly white college in the state of Kentucky had any African-Americans on its roster at the time. After playing on the freshman-only team in 1962-63, a rule lifted in 1972, the trio moved up to the varsity team. Houston, the first of the group to earn a scholarship to play at UofL, lettered from 1963- 66 and twice participated in post- season competition. Following the Tennessee native’s career in which he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Houston went on to coach Male High in Louis- ville to the state tournament twice and the 1974-75 Kentucky state championship. In 1975, Houston was hired at UofL as an assistant coach on Denny Crum’s staff and helped direct the Cardinals to a long tenure of success. During his time on the sidelines, Louisville made four Final Four appearances, with the 1980 and 1986 seasons culminating in NCAA Champion- ships. Tennessee hired Houston in 1989 and he became the first African American head coach in the Southeastern Conference. He later left the coaching profession and became a highly successful businessman in Louisville. 2020 Wade Houston Tipoff Classic Wednesday, Nov. 25 Prairie View vs. Little Rock * Evansville vs. Louisville * Friday, Nov. 27 Evansville vs. Prairie View A&M * Seton Hall vs. Louisville * UNC Greensboro vs. Little Rock * Saturday, Nov. 28 Little Rock vs. Western Kentucky Sunday, Nov. 29 Prairie View A&M vs. Louisville Winthrop vs. UNC Greensboro Monday, Nov. 30 Little Rock vs. Duquesne Tuesday, Dec. 1 Prairie View A&M vs. UNC Greensboro Western Kentucky vs. Louisville Wednesday, Dec. 2 UNC Greensboro vs. Duquesne * Winthrop vs. Little Rock Thursday, Dec. 3 Western Ky. vs. Prairie View A&M Friday, Dec. 4 Duquesne vs. Winthrop * UNC Greensboro vs. Louisville * Wade Houston Tipoff Classic games gocards.com n University of Louisville 215 Series vs. 2020-21 Opponents Louisville BasketballThe Cardinal Athletic Fund was established in 1979 as an avenue for the Athletic Depart- ment to be a self sustaining entity. Since then, the commitment and growth of the CAF has been extraordinary. For over 30 years, the goals and dreams of UofL student-athletes have been made possible by the Cardinal Athletic Fund and over 8,000 gracious sup- porters. Through our members’ annual contributions ranging from $100 to $100,000 and above, UofL stu- dent-athletes are provided the opportunity to pursue their academic goals and their athletic dreams, while learning the skills that will prepare them to impact their future communities. Achieving this mission is a tribute to the true spirit of the Cardinal Athletic Fund. Your membership in the CAF provides you with many exciting benefits. Whether in Cardinal Stadium or in the KFC Yum! Center, these benefits will pro- vide you with great value and enhance your overall experience as part of the UofL team. Information on the Cardinal Athletic Fund can be obtained through our website: www.CardinalAth- leticFund.com. Cardinal Athletic Fund Priority Points The CAF Priority Point system is a fair and effec- tive way to allocate tickets. The goal of the Priority Point system is to reward those fans who support the program the “longest and the strongest.” The CAF utilizes the Priority Point System in the alloca- tion and relocation of home tickets, away tickets, ACC Tournament tickets, NCAA tickets, Bowl Game tickets and parking. Every donor to the Cardinal Athletic Fund is essential in our mission to support the scholarship needs of UofL student-athletes. The CAF as well as the Cardinal student-athletes greatly appreciate your support. Priority Points are awarded accordingly; n One point for every $100 donated to the CAF n One point for every $100 donated to an indi- vidual sport or Capital Campaign n One point for each year a donation is made n One point for each year in which football season tickets are purchased n One point for each year in which basketball sea- son tickets are purchased n Two points for each year in which season tickets are purchased for women’s basketball, volleyball or baseball. Priority Point Ranking CAF members earn priority points through a vari- ety of ways including years of giving, season ticket purchases, and donations. CAF members are then ranked against all other members according to their total points. This ranking is used to prioritize benefits such as NCAA Tournament tickets, ACC Tournament tickets, Bowl Tickets, etc. and was used to determine the order basketball season ticket holders selected their seats in the new arena. Ways To Give The Cardinal Athletic Fund provides support for the University of Louisville Athletic Department and student-athletes through various avenues, includ- ing contributions to the annual fund, endowments, matching gifts and planned giving. The following are methods of giving and gift destinations: Gifts of Cash. Cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard and American Express are all acceptable ways to contribute. Please make checks payable to the Uni- versity of Louisville. Gifts-in-Kind. In lieu of monetary donations, the CAF may accept certain gifts and services that would otherwise have needed to be purchased. The donor receives a retail credit for the gift/service as well as a deduction. These gifts must have prior approval by the ULAA. Gifts of Real Estate. A personal or “recreational” residence, a farm or ranch, a commercial building, subdivision lots or an undevel- oped parcel of land - gifts of real estate can consist of almost any type of property. Individual financial needs and goals will determine which method of giving real estate is most appropriate for you. Gifts of Appreciated Securities. Contri- butions of long term appreciated securities (those held for more than one year) to the Cardinal Athletic Fund may helpy you eliminate paying a capital gains tax on the securities and entitle you to an income tax charitable deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities at the time the gift is given. This tax advantage allows you to contribute the appreciated securities directly instead of selling them and then giving the net proceeds to the Cardinal Ath- letic Fund. Please check with your financial advisor to determine any tax implications. Trusts. Options for donating the income of a trust are available and offer substantial tax benefits. Bequests. A testamentary bequest (i.e. a gift under a will) may be in the form of cash, securities, real estate, tangible personal prop- erty or other assets. Corporate Matching Gifts Benefits of Matching Gifts Participation in the corporate matching gifts program is a great way to increase your Cardinal Athletic Fund Donor Level and priority points as well as increase scholarship support for the University of Louisville student-athletes. A matching gift may not be used to pay your annual CAF seat pledge but may be used to supplement your total CAF giving. The following is a list of companies which have participated in our matching gifts program. This list is not all inclusive and the policy of a company is subject to change, so please be sure to check with your human resources department. Does My Company Match? To find out your companies policy on corporate matching gifts sim- ply check with your human resources department. The matching gift policies of most corporations can also be found at http://www.matchinggifts.com/uofl. Simply type in your corporation’s name to find the corporation’s policies. How do I submit a Matching Gift? Obtain a matching gift form from your human resources department. Then return the completed form with your donation, to the Cardinal Athletic Fund. 216 University of Louisville n gocards.com Cardinal Athletic Fund Louisville BasketballNext >
