< PreviousACADEMIC SUPPORT Thirty years ago Villanova University was one of the leaders among NCAA Division I schools in recognizing the need for providing academic support for its student-athletes. This is a University which treasures its outstanding academic reputation and is equally proud of its stu- dent-athletes who represent Villanova every year in inter-collegiate contests. Today, college athletes are expected to be involved in their sports and in train- ing all year long. Time demands are extraordinary. The Office of Academic Support helps our student- athletes to manage these athletic demands without sacrificing their academic careers. At Villanova, the Office of Academic Support reports to the Office of the Provost. The Academic Support staff works with the Athletic Department, whose directors and coaches have always under- stood the primacy of academics. The entire university community is proud of the fact that all the student-athletes who stay at our University for their entire careers graduate with as fine a degree as any in the country. The Office of Academic Support works in conjunc- tion with the many offices of academic support on campus available to all students. Moreover, with its Freshman Mentoring Program and academic tutors, the Academic Support staff oversees the academic progress of Villanova’s student-athletes throughout the year. Villanova’s Athletic Department has never lost sight of the mission of its University. The faculty, alumni, administrators, and students can be assured that this tradition of excellence continues. Former Villanova student-athlete Brian Westbrook was inducted into the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame in October 2015 “I RECEIVED A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF SUPPORT FROM THE ACADEMIC SUPPORT STAFF. THEY WERE A HUGE HELP IN ASSISTING ME TO REACH THE GOALS I SET FOR MYSELF.” – Brian Westbrook n Former Villanova All-American running back. n 2001 Walter Payton Award Winner. n Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft. Joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2010. n Chosen to participate in the Pro Bowl in 2004 and 2007 Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Famer ACADEMIC SUPPORT 2020-21 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL 188 n VILLANOVA TODAYSTRENGTH AND CONDITIONING SPORTS MEDICINE Dhamir Cosby-RoundtreeCole Swider The Villanova men’s and wom- en’s basketball teams bene- fit from a weight training fa- cility that is just steps from their locker rooms inside the beautiful Davis Center.
