< PreviousSUPPORT STAFF DIRECTOR OF PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION ARLESHIA DAVIDSON Arleshia Davidson has served in a variety of administrative roles since coming to Villanova in 2009 and in the summer of 2017 was elevated to the newly created post of Director of Program Administration. In this capacity she assists Coach Wright with an assortment of tasks, including oversight of day-to-day operations of Villanova Basketball, academic support, event planning and management and ticketing. Previously Davidson had served as Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Davidson came to Villanova in 2009 with a strong academic background. From 2001-09, she was a Mathematics teacher at Bloomfield Vocational Technical Schools in New Jersey. She also served as the center director and teaching specialist at the U.S. Dream Academy in East Orange, N.J. Davidson earned a mathematics degree from Florida State University, where she also played on the basketball team. She was a Dean’s List student as an undergraduate. She makes her home in Eagleville, Pa. TEAM CHAPLAIN / SENIOR ASSOC. ATHLETICS DIRECTOR REV. ROB HAGAN, O.S.A. In his 17th season at Villanova, Rev. Rob Hagan, O.S.A. serves as the Team Chaplain for the Men’s Basketball and Football teams at Villanova. In July 2018, he was elevated to the post of Senior Associate Athletics Director. As part of his role in the Athletic Department, he oversees the areas of Sports Medicine and Strength and Conditioning, and is also the administrator for the golf and tennis programs. Father Rob came to Villanova in 2003 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, and has been part of the school’s athletics administrative team ever since. Hagan graduated from Villanova with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987. He went on to earn a J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1990. After receiving his law degree, Father Rob spent seven years as an attorney with Gillin and Associates, where he served as Criminal Defense Counsel, in addition to handling contract negotiations, arbitrations and mediations. He also served as assistant counsel to the Solicitor for the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority and the Delaware County Register of Wills. Hagan entered the Order of Saint Augustine in 1997. He served as Chaplain as Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and at the University of Maryland, College Park, and received a Masters in Theology from the Washington Theological Union in 2003. He is a past member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Delaware County Bar Association and the Delaware County Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. ASSISTANT ATHLETICS DIRECTOR/ COMPLIANCE MALCOLM GRACE In July of 2017 Villanova Director of Athletics Mark Jackson announced that Malcolm Grace has been hired as Villanova’s Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance/Basketball. In this position, Malcolm oversees the compliance operations for the sports of Men’s & Women’s Basketball and assists the Athletics Compliance Office in administering additional aspects of the compliance program. “We are excited to have Malcolm join our team,” said Jackson. “This is a unique position in college athletics in that it will be basketball specific. In this new role, Malcolm will not only help protect our basketball programs, but will also look for new and innovative ways to work closely with both the Big East Conference and the NCAA.” He arrives at Villanova from Rutgers University where he was the Director of Compliance for two years. In this role, he managed NCAA, Big Ten Conference and University rules compliance for coaches, staff, student-athletes and stakeholders for six varsity Scarlet Knight athletic teams including women’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, gymnastics, softball and men’s track & field. Malcolm began his career in compliance at the NCAA national office as a Post-Graduate Intern for Enforcement from June, 2014 until April, 2015. During this internship, he investigated and processed Level I, II and III infractions of NCAA bylaws at Division I, II and III institutions. Before getting involved in college athletics, Malcolm worked for 15 years as a lawyer, congressional counsel and lobbyist in Washington, D.C. His last seven years in D.C., were as Vice-President & General Counsel at a prominent lobbyist firm. Malcolm earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Syracuse University in May, 1994. In addition to being a Dean’s List student, Malcolm was a four year member of the men’s soccer team and served as a team captain as a senior in 1993. He went on to earn a Law Degree from Syracuse in 1997. 2020-21 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL 28 n BASKETBALL STAFF SUPPORT STAFF 2020-21 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL BASKETBALL STAFF n 29 HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER DAN ERICKSON On Sept. 1, 2020 Dan Erickson be- gan serving as the Head Athletic Train- er for the Villanova Men’s Basketball program, replacing Jeff Pierce, who held that position from 1988-2020. Erickson (MS/ATC/CSCS) comes to the Wildcats after serving in a similar capacity for the Delaware Blue Coats of the G League. Prior to that, he spent four years (2014-18) as part of the Orlando Magic staff. In 2014-15 he was an Athletic Trainer Associate before being elevated to the role of Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach. Erickson holds a Bachelor of Science and a master’s de- gree in athletic training from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. TEAM PHYSICIAN DR. MICHAEL DUNCAN Former Villanova baseball player Dr. Michael Duncan, M.D., joined the Uni- versity in 2012 and serves as the team physician for the Villanova athletic de- partment. Dr. Duncan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Villanova, where he ma- jored in biology and minored in busi- ness while also playing baseball for the Wildcats. After earning his medical de- gree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, he completed his residency at the Bryn Mawr Family Practice Residency Program at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Duncan completed his primary care sports medicine fel- lowship through the Drexel University Sports Medicine fel- lowship program associated with Hahnemann University Hospital. While at Drexel, he served as an assistant team physician for two Division I universities, one Division II uni- versity and two Philadelphia based high schools. Dr. Duncan is an active member of the American Medi- cal Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians and Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. STRENGTH COACH JOHN SHACKLETON John Shackleton joined the basketball program in August 2012 and has played a pivotal role as the Wildcats’ Strength Coach since that point. He also plays a key role in developing the team’s nutritional plan. Shackleton first came to Villanova in 2010 when he served as an assistant strength coach for the Wildcats football program. In that role he assisted the head strength coach in all aspects of the physical preparation as the 2009 NCAA FCS champion Wildcats prepared for a 2010 season that would see them advance to the FCS semifinals. Following his stint on the Main Line, Shackleton served one year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked primarily with the track and field and swimming programs. In 2011, Shackleton was named assistant strength and conditioning coach at Princeton University where he worked with the men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s heavy weight crew and women’s water polo units as well as the Tiger men’s basketball and football programs. Shackleton earned a BS Magna Cum Laude Kinesiology degree from Temple University in 2008 and an MS Exercise Science diploma in 2010 from George Washington University. He makes his home in Newtown, Pa., with his wife Beth and their son John, born in 2013. TEAM ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON DR. WILLIAM EMPER Returning to work with the Villanova Basketball program in 2019-20 is Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. William Emper. A Harvard University graduate, Emper completed his medical studies at Harvard and was also an All-Ivy League defensive back for the Crimson football squad. He is associated with Bryn Mawr Hospital as an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist.SUPPORT STAFF DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT FOR ATHLETICS JENN BROPHY Jenn Brophy is the Director of Aca- demic Support at Villanova. Brophy served as the Assistant Direc- tor for Academic Support for three years and then served as Associate Director under the late Dan Regan. She presently oversees the daily operations of the Of- fice of Academic Support for Athletics. As the primary liason between the aca- demic and athletic communities, Brophy is in constant communication with deans, faculty and coaches. She graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 2004 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She pursued a graduate degree at Temple University and is cur- rently working towards another master’s degree in coun- seling from Villanova. After graduating from Temple, Bro- phy worked as the academic coordinator for the Office of Academic Affairs for Varsity Athletics at Loyola College in Maryland. An active member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A), she is a member of the Learning Concerns Committee. Brophy and her husband Kyle reside in Ardmore, Pa. FACULTY ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVE DR. JEREMY KEES Jeremy Kees (Ph.D.), who came to Villanova in 2006 after earning his doctorate at the University of Arkan- sas, serves as the University’s Faculty Athletics Representative after suc- ceeding the late Dan Regan in that role. Kees works closely with the Of- fice of Academic Support for Athletics and Compliance and Student Services to support Villanova athletics. As a faculty member, Kees serves as the Richard J. and Barbara Naclerio Endowed Chair in Business and Profes- sor of Marketing. He also is the founder and director of the Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights. Kees teaches Research Driven Decision Making and Strategic Marketing Management in the Graduate School of Business and Com- petitive Effectiveness to undergraduates. Kees played college basketball at Belmont University where he was a 1,000-point scorer. He resides in Bryn Mawr with his wife (Brooke) and two children (Jace and Hallie). ATHLETIC ACADEMIC ADVISOR MARISSA PAFFAS Marissa Paffas joined the Villanova Basketball family in the fall of 2012. She serves as an Athletic Advisor, working closely with the men’s basketball stu- dent-athletes. Paffas and Jenn Brophy were recip- ients of the 2018 Nova Nation Award for exceptional service to the men’s basketball program. Paffas graduated from Villanova in 2007 with a B.A. in history with a concentration in Russian Area Studies and a minor in Russian language. She went on to earn a Master’s degree from Villanova in 2009. From 2008-12, Paffas served as a tutor to Villanova stu- dent-athletes. ATHLETICS DIRECTOR/COMMUNICATIONS MIKE SHERIDAN Mike Sheridan serves as the basket- ball program’s primary conduit to the print and broadcast media. Sheridan joined the athletic depart- ment in October 1998 and became the contact for men’s basketball. He has held that role ever since and in the summer of 2018 was promoted to the role of Assistant Athletics Director/ Communications. As part of his responsibilities, Sheridan serves as a coor- dinating producer of “Inside Villanova Basketball with Jay Wright” and co-host of the “Talking Villanova Basketball with Jay Wright” podcast. In 2019 Sheridan received the Katha Quinn Award from the United States Basketball Writers Association for contri- butions to college basketball. 2020-21 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL 30 n BASKETBALL STAFF SUPPORT STAFF 2020-21 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL BASKETBALL STAFF n 31 ASSISTANT AD / EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS BLAKE BURKEY Blake Burkey enters his third season at Villanova as the Assistant Athletics Director for Equipment Operations. In this role, Burkey will oversee the equipment and apparel needs for all 24 Wildcat sports. He arrives at Villanova from Saint Joseph’s University where he was the Director of Athletic Equipment Opera- tions and the Head Equipment Manag- er from 2015-18. Prior to Saint Joseph’s he was the Assistant Director of Facilities & Operations and the Head Equipment Manager at Rider from 2010-15. His first full-time position came at the University of Penn- sylvania where he was an assistant for Athletic Facilities and Operations from 2008-10. Burkey is a 2006 graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s Univer- sity where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Eco- nomics in 2006. He also owns a Masters Degree in Sports Administration from Canisius College in 2008. GRADUATE MANAGER ROB DEPERSIA Rob DePersia, a native of Cherry Hill N.J. joined the Wildcats staff in the summer of 2019 as a graduate manager. This product of Haddonfield High School is a 2019 graduate of Rowan University, where he earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering. He was a four-year starter and three-year captain on the Men’s Basketball team. In his four seasons at Rowan, the guard became the first player in program history to record 1,000 or more points and 500 or more assists. Depersia is currently pursuing a Masters of Business in the Villanova School of Business. GRADUATE MANAGER JOE FLANNERY Joe Flannery came to Villanova in June 2018 as a graduate manager after one season as a professional basketball player in Spain. Flannery played at Babson College, where he was part of a 2017 Division III NCAA championship unit. A two- time NABC Division III National Player of the Year, Flannery scored 2,620 points and collected 779 rebounds as a four year starter. In addition, he served as a team captain in his final two seasons. In 2017 he was a finalist for the Clarence “Bevo” Francis award, given to the top small college player in the country. Flannery is a native of Action, Mass. His parents are Suzanne and Joe Flannery and he has two sisters, Allie and Sarah. GRADUATE MANAGER TOM LEIBIG Tom Leibig, Villanova Class of 2018, returned to his alma mater in the summer of 2019 as a graduate manager. A native of Havertown, Pa., Leibig played two seasons at Villanova (2016- 18) after serving as a practice player. Leibig was a part of the Wildcats’ 2018 NCAA national championship unit. Leibig is pursuing a Masters degree at Villanova. GRADUATE MANAGER COLIN ARMSTRONG After serving four seasons as a student office assistant in the Basketball Office, Collin Armstrong graduated from Villanova in May 2020 with a degree in Economics. The Fairfax, Va., will serve as a graduate manager in 2020-21 as he pursues a master’s in business administration in the Villanova School of Business. GRADUATE & STUDENT MANAGERS GRADUATE MANAGER TYSON WEST Tyson West is in his first season as a graduate manager for the Wildcats in 2019-20. West’s father, Doug, was a standout Wildcats’ guard from 1985- 89 and later served as an assistant coach at Villanova, where he was part of the staff that helped lead the ‘Cats to the 2009 NCAA Final Four. Tyson West is a graduate The Linsly School in Wheeling, W.Va. He earned a degree in Psychology from Penn State Altoona, where he played three seasons of basketball. West is currently pursuing a Masters degree in higher education. GRADUATE MANAGER TIM SAUNDERS Former Wildcats’ walk-on Tim Saunders, a 2020 graduate from the Villanova School of Business with a degree in marketing, joined his alma mater’s staff as a graduate manager prior to 2020-21. A native of Torrey Pines, Cal., Saunders played high school basketball at Torrey Pines High School under head coach John Olive. Olive is a former Wildcat (1973-77) who later served as an assistant to head coach Rollie Massimino (he and Jay Wright were on the same staff). 2020-21 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL 32 n BASKETBALL STAFF CHRISTOPHER M. DINCUFF AWARD This award honors the memory of Chris Dincuff, Villanova class of 1992. Chris was killed on Sept. 11, 2001, while working in the North Tower of the World Trade Center as a commodities broker for Carr Futures. One month earlier Chris had, at his own expense, traveled to follow the Wildcats on a summer tour of Italy. He was an avid fan of Villanova Basketball and his fiancee, Angie Gutermuth established a scholarship in his name to provide educational aid for a student manager in honor of Chris. Each year this award is presented to a Villanova basketball manager, one of the program’s unsung heroes, who exudes the same passion for the program that Chris Dincuff demonstrated. TERESA AND JOSEPH MARTINI ‘61 ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN HONOR OF RANDY FOYE This scholarship was created in 2006 after the graduation of All-American guard Randy Foye. It helps provide educational and financial support to a student manager from New Jersey, where Foye grew up in Newark. The award honors Foye, who overcame the loss of both his parents before the age of six to emerge as BIG EAST Player of the Year as a college senior. Foye continues to serve the community of Newark today through the Randy Foye Foundation.
