< PreviousGEORGIA/ARKANSAS RECAPS 61 In a top-10 matchup, No. 4 Georgia beat No. 7 Auburn 27-6 Saturday at Sanford Stadium in the 125th edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. Bo Nix completed 21 of 41 passes for 177 yards and true freshman Tank Bigsby accounted for 99 yards of total offense to pace the Tigers. After Georgia scored a touchdown and kicked a field goal on its first two drives to lead 10-0 after the first quarter, the Bulldogs added a 21-yard touchdown pass and Zamir White’s second TD run to lead 24-0 with 6:26 remaining in the first half. Auburn got on the scoreboard with a 20-yard Anders Carlson field goal to cap a 12-play, 65-yard drive for a 24-3 halftime score. On th drive, Nix’s 19-yard pass to Bigsby was Auburn’s longest gain of the half. Making his first start, Bigsby made seven receptions for 68 yards while adding 31 rushing yards on eight carries. Auburn began the second half with a 15-play drive that led to Carlson’s 45-yard field goal, trim- ming UGA’s lead to 24-6. The Tigers converted three third downs on the drive, with Nix hitting Seth Williams for 10 and 20 yards to move the chains twice while Nix rushed for 10 yards on third-and-5. After Georgia kicked a field goal to lead 27-6, Auburn again drove into UGA territory, with 6-2, 300-pound true freshman tight end J.J. Pegues twice picking up first downs with 2-yard runs out of the Wildcat formation. The drive ended with a fourth-down interception. Anthony Schwartz had eight receptions for 57 yards. Jamien Sherwood highlighted Auburn’s defensive effort, making a career-high 14 tackles. Sher- wood tallied 13 stops in the first half, including a tackle for loss, while breaking up two passes. Jordyn Peters also had a career effort with 13 tackles. K.J. Britt added 12 tackles and Zakoby McClain made 11, both career highs. McClain also recorded a sack. The kicker missed a 34-yard field goal late in the fourth, but when his teammates gave him another opportunity with less than 20 seconds left to win it, he delivered. Carlson drilled a 39-yard field goal, his third made field goal of the game, to propel No. 13 Auburn to a 30-28 victory over Arkansas on a wet, rainy day in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Tank Bigsby finished with 146 yards rushing, 16 yards receiving and added 106 yards on kick returns. He ran for 106 yards in the first half, becoming the first Auburn running back to reach 100 yards in the first half of an SEC game 2017. Auburn scored first with a blocked punt for a touchdown. Defensive back Jordyn Peters broke through and blocked the punt while linebacker Barton Lester was there to fall on it. The Tigers added a field goal late in the first quarter to make it 10-0. On their opening drive of the second, the offense ran the ball 10 straight times and marched 80 yards down the field for a touchdown. Bigsby started the drive with runs of 13 and 17 yards. D.J. Williams picked up 11 yards and then converted a third-and-2 with a 5-yard run. Bo Nix capped the drive with a 15-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 17-0. Arkansas battled back in the second half to cut the lead to two, but the Tigers responded. Nix and Anthony Schwartz connected five times for 56 yards on the drive, including a 17-yard touch- down catch from Schwartz on 3rd-and-10. Schwartz finished with a team-high 10 receptions and 100 yards receiving, both career highs. On defense, linebackers Owen Pappoe and Zakoby McClain stepped up for Auburn. McClain led the team with 13 tackles, a new career high, and Pappoe also set a career high in tackles with 10 while adding a sack as well. Bigsby passed the century mark in the fourth quarter on runs of 30 and 19 yards, setting up An- ders Carlson’s third field goal to make it a one-score game with 6:36 to play. Bigsby gained 111 yards on 16 carries. Auburn’s defense held the Gamecocks to one first down before the Tigers got the ball back with 2:15 to play, needing to go 80 yards with no timeouts. Auburn drove to the Gamecocks’ 12-yard line with 9 seconds remaining, but on fourth-and-5, Bo Nix was tackled at the 9-yard-line, two yards short of the first down. Auburn scored on the opening drive of the second half to lead 19-14 after marching 54 yards on 11 plays and converting two third downs to set up Carlson’s second field goal, a 35-yarder. The Gamecocks answered with a 75-yard touchdown drive, taking a 20-19 lead on a 10-yard touchdown pass. South Carolina’s attempted two-point pass was incomplete with 6:31 left in the third quarter. Owen Pappoe’s first career interception ended South Carolina’s red zone threat late in the third quarter, but the Gamecocks soon regained possession with their third interception and scored on an 8-yard run on their next play to lead 27-19 with 54 seconds left in the quarter.
