SERIES HISTORY n Auburn leads the all-time series with Kentucky, which dates back to 1934, by a 26-6-1 margin. n The Tigers are 12-2 all-time in games played in Auburn, although the Wildcats won the last meeting there, a 21-14 victory in 2009. IN SEASON OPENERS n Auburn is 98-27-2 (.779) all-time in season openers. The Tigers have won 12 of their past 14 openers dating back to the 2006 season, and have won six of seven season openers under Coach Gus Malzahn, losing only to eventual national champion Clemson (19-13) in 2016 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. n Last season, Auburn came from 15 points down to defeat No. 11 Oregon 27-21 in the Advocare Classic in Arlington, Texas. n Auburn’s total of 98 season-opening victories is behind only Alabama (100) and Arkansas (99) for the most among current SEC schools. n The Tigers are 101-16-3 (.854) all-time in home openers; there were no games played in Auburn in 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895, 1897, 1937 and 1938. Although Jordan-Hare Stadium opened in 1939, the Tigers did not open a sea- son there until 1951; since then, Auburn is 66- 12-2 at the stadium in home openers. Coach Gus Malzahn is 6-1 in home openers and the Tigers have won 13 of their last 14 home open- ers, the only loss coming to eventual national champion Clemson in 2016 by a 19-13 score. KICKOFF COVERAGE n Auburn’s 2020 campaign will be its 128th season of college football. The Tigers have 776 wins all-time, 13th-most among FBS schools. n In 2019, Christian Tutt finished fifth nationally in punt re- turns, averaging 13.6 yards on 23 punt returns. Tutt tied for second nationally with six returns of at least 20 yards. n The 2019 SEC freshman of the year, Bo Nix set Auburn freshman records for passing yardage (2,542), pass comple- tions (217), pass attempts (377) and TD passes (16). n Preseason all-SEC Tigers as selected by the league’s coaches include first-team picks LB K.J. Britt and DE Big Kat Bryant, OL Brodarious Hamm on the second team and WR Seth Williams and DB/RS Christian Tutt as third team selections. n Quarterback Bo Nix has a current streak of 191 consecutive pass attempts thrown without an interception, second na- tionally behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence (276). n Team captains for the 2020 season are LB K.J. Britt, DE Big Kat Bryant, QB Bo Nix and RB Shaun Shivers. n Auburn has been ranked in the AP Top 10 at least once during the last eight seasons, tying a school-best streak from 1983-90. n Auburn is opening a season against an SEC opponent for the 17th time since the inception of the SEC in 1933. The Tigers are 11-5 in the previous 16 games, including a current four game winning streak and wins in eight of the last nine. The last was a 45-21 home win over Arkansas in 2014. SOUTH CAROLINA ..................................TBA UK TRAVELS TO AUBURN IN 2020 OPENER n The Sept. 26 start date is the latest season-opener since 1941. n The Wildcats also have seen Alabama and Ole Miss added to their schedule to replace two of the non-league games that were canceled. n The Cats return a deep and veteran squad highlighted by one of the nation’s top offensive lines and secondaries, as well as a healthy Terry Wilson at quarterback. n The running game is expected to once again be a strength with a stable of backs that goes a minimum of three deep, while one of the program’s most heralded recruiting classes ever could also make an immediate impact all over the field. QUICK NOTES n Kentucky kicks off its 130th season of intercollegiate foot- ball against Auburn. n The Wildcats opens the season against a conference oppo- nent for the first time since 1960. n That game saw the Cats lose 23-13 to Georgia Tech, which was a member of the SEC at the time. n UK is 88-36-5 (.709) all-time in season openers and 5-2 under coach Mark Stoops. n The Wildcats have won 10 of their past 13 season openers, including three straight. n Coach Mark Stoops begins his eighth season in Lexington. He is 44-44 overall. n Ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press poll, UK is ranked heading into the season opener for the first time since 1978 when it was No. 17 as it kicked off on Sept. 12. n Kentucky finished the 2019 season 8-5 overall and 3-5 in SEC play. KENTUCKY VS. THE RANKED n Kentucky has played 251 ranked teams in the Associated Press Poll in its history. The Cats are 44-202-5 in those games. n Since 2015, the Cats are 5-6 against ranked teams. The wins were over No. 12 Penn State, No. 14 Mississippi State and No. 25 Florida (2018), No. 11 Louisville (2016) and No. 25 Missouri (2015). n The wins vs. UF and MSU in 2018 gave UK consecutive wins over ranked foes for the first time since 1976-77. n UK is 1-14-1 vs. a ranked Auburn team.
