The game was previously scheduled for a noon start on ESPN2. The Wildcats enter the rivalry game 11-2 vs. Louisville under head coach John Cali- pari and 37-16 all-time. UK has won three straight in the series and is 13-9 vs. the Car- dinals in Louisville. Kentucky won a 78-70 overtime thriller in last season's matchup in Rupp Arena. UK will enter the game on a five-game losing streak, the first in the Calipari era. The game will be the final nonconference game before Southeastern Conference play begins (the Wildcats will play one more noncon- ference game in the middle of league play vs. Texas). Bounce Back Kentucky doesn't lose often during the John Calipari era, but when the Wildcats do, they almost always bounce back. UK is 55- 17 under Calipari following a loss (record does not countend-of-season losses). For just the first time in 12 seasons un- der Calipari, Kentucky has lost five straight games. UK has dropped consecutive games to Richmond, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and North Carolina in the early stag- es of 2020-21 as it navigates its way through a tough schedule with an extremely young team. The last and only other time the Wild- cats suffered anything similar to this losing streak under Calipari was in 2017-18 when UK dropped four straight games during the 2017-18 season. That team went on to win the Southeastern Conference Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16. Prior to the Calipari era, the last time UK lost five games in a row was early in the 1989-90 season (Dec. 23, 1989 to Jan. 6, 1990). This is the first time Kentucky has started the season 1-5 since the 1926-27 team opened 1-8. UK Leads Nation with 31 Players on NBA Opening-Day Rosters Amid all the changes to the NBA sched- ule and the uncertainty over the last year, one thing remains a constant in the profes- sional ranks: No other program prepares its players for the NBA quite like Kentucky. The 2020-21 NBA season began Tues- day with a staggering 31 players on NBA opening-day rosters (including two-way and inactive lists) who played and finished their college basketball careers at Kentucky. Underscoring the fact that no other school in the country can match UK's ability to develop players and put them in the NBA, UK's 31 players are once again the most of any college basketball program, beating the next-closest school (Duke with 26) by five players. Of the 31 Wildcats on an opening-day NBA roster, Calipari has coached 30 of them. With Derrick Rose (Detroit Pistons), who played for Calipari during the 2006-07 season at Memphis, Calipari has coached 31 players on 2020-21 opening-day rosters. It's worth noting that approximately 20 more Wildcats are slated to play in the NBA G League or playing professionally over- seas. Former UK video coordinator Frank Vogel and former Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne are in the league as coaches. Vogel is the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and Payne is an assistant with the Knicks. Other notable alumni include, 1978 national champion Dwane Casey, who returns as head coach of the Detroit Pistons, and Pat Riley continues to serve as president of the Heat. Kentucky has enjoyed unprecedented success at putting players in the NBA under Calipari. In the 11 previous seasons of the Calipari era, 41 players have been select- ed in the NBA Draft, more than any other school. Included in the recent run are 31 first-round picks, three No. 1 overall se- lections (Anthony Davis [2012] Towns and Wall) and 21 lottery selections. Calipari's players have entered the league NBA-ready. His players have gar- nered 23 All-Star selections, with Davis winning the game's MVP honor in 2017. Rose was named NBA MVP in 2011. Five of his players have been tabbed All-NBA, three have been named NBA Rookie of the Year, and 14 players from Calipari's first 10 teams at Kentucky have made the NBA All-Rookie teams. Next >
