Earlier this week, it was announced that Kentucky was voted by the Southeastern Conference coaches as the preseason favor- ites to win the league, receiving 11 of the 13 first-place votes. Kentucky is the three-times defending champions of the SEC, including in 2019 when the Wildcats won their final eight SEC matches to take the title. Additionally, Kentucky had three play- ers named to the SEC All-Preseason Team with setter Madison Lilley, outside hitter Alli Stumler and libero Gabby Curry earn- ing preseason honors. The three Wildcats named to the SEC All-Preseason Team were the most in the conference, with only Mis- souri earning more than one (2) in addition to the three Wildcats. Kentucky is ranked No. 3 in the inaugu- ral top-15 rankings, released by the Amer- ican Volleyball Coaches' Association. This is Kentucky's highest-ever ranking to begin a season, with the previous high coming as No. 7 in 2018. The conferences playing volleyball this fall are the teams eligible to be ranked, which puts the SEC, ACC, Big XII and Sun Belt as eligible teams. Texas was the No. 1 team in this week's rankings, earning 19 of the 20 possible first-place votes, followed by Baylor – who earned the other. Kentucky is the high- est-ranked SEC team, followed by No. 4 Florida, No. 7 Missouri and No. 8 Texas A&M. All four of the SEC's teams ranked are inside of the top 10. Kentucky will play six of its eight match- es on national television this fall, highlight- ed by opening night vs. Tennessee on Oct. 16 vs. Tennessee on the SEC Network. Fri- day night will serve as the opening match for SEC Volleyball, with that being the first and only match of the night across the league. Additionally, Kentucky’s matches at Missouri on Oct. 28 and 29 will both be shown live on ESPNU with 9 p.m. ET start times. The Kentucky vs. Auburn series will see one nationally televised match, with Sunday’s showdown on Nov. 8 broadcast live at 4 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. In its final regular-season matches of the fall, UK will travel to Starkville, Mississippi to take on Miss. St. at 1 p.m. ET on Nov. 12 and 13 with both airing live on the SEC Network. The Wildcats will be taking park in an eight-match conference-only schedule con- sisting of playing four opponents twice on back-to-back nights in the fall. The NCAA has moved the volleyball championships to April 23-25 in the spring, and the SEC will decide on a regular-season format for spring matches at a later date. UK also instilled programs to help prepare players for changes in life and to better connect with every player while at the same time bringing former players back who can offer career advice.COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Many Kentucky players choose to take part in serving the community in a variety of projects, including mentoring, hospital visits, speaking engagements and food drives. In 2019, along with other UK engineering students and a team of Toyota Manufacturing engineers, senior offensive guard Luke Fortner worked for months to help design, test and manufacture a specially-built push cart vehicle through a project called “Lift Them Up.” The push cart vehicle provides a Kentucky Children’s Hospital patient the chance to both accompany the Wildcats on the Cat Walk and attend a game at Kroger Field.
