KAHLIL WHITNEY Follow KAHLIL on Social Media n @KahlilWhitney on Twitter n @kahlilwhitney on Instagram #2 ChicagoBy Christopher Shoals UK Athletics Communications and Public Relations The 2019 Southeastern Conference champion Kentucky Volleyball team saw its magical 2019 season come to its conclusion last Friday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 (25-16, 26-24, 15-25, 25-22) decision to the No. 8 Washington Huskies in the re- gional round of the 2019 NCAA Volleyball Championships. UK finished the season with a 25-7 re- cord overall and closed out 2019 with a 16-2 SEC record, winning the SEC title for a program-record third year in a row under head coach Craig Skinner. For the first time in Kentucky Volleyball history, the Wildcats have had three play- ers named All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association, it was announced Wednesday. Leah Edmond was voted first team, Madison Lilley earned sec- ond team honors and Alli Stumler was elect- ed third team. For Edmond, she becomes the first Kentucky player to be named a four-time All-American, as she was voted a first team- er for the second time in her career (2017). Lilley has now been awarded second team honors for the third season in a row. For Stumler, it is her first-career All-America honor. The three honors are the 16th, 17th and 18th in program history to be placed on the first, second or third teams. Both Edmond and Lilley were second teamers a season ago, as they are now both back-to-back All-Americans. For Edmond, she earns the program’s fourth-ever first-team honor, joining her first honor in 2017, Marsha Bond (1983) and Karolyn Kirby (1983). Skinner has now coached six different players to 13 different AVCA All-American honors in his 15-year tenure as the Wildcats head coach. In addition to being named All-America, Kentucky placed five on the AVCA All-Re- gion teams, which are comprised of the 18 best players in the Southeast Region of the country. Edmond, Lilley and Stumler were joined by libero Gabby Curry and middle blocker Leah Meyer. Additionally, Skinner was named the AVCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year for the second-straight year. Edmond was named the Region Player of the Year for the second time in three sea- sons, as well. Kentucky cleaned house in the South- eastern Conference awards, as well. Ed- mond was named the SEC Player of the Year and Curry was named the Libero of the Year for the second-straight season in her Wild- cat career. Curry and Edmond were joined on the All-SEC team by Stumler and Lilley. Edmond leaves Kentucky as the only four-time All-American in program history, the all-time leader in kills, total attacks and ranks top-10 in hitting percentage. She grad- uates in May alongside of her three class- mates, Caitlyn Cooper, Kylie Schmaltz and graduate transfer Leah Meyer.
