UofL went 11-3 at home and had a 7-5 mark on the road and was 4-1 at neu- tral sites. Louisville earned an at-large bid to make its 27th NCAA appearance, where the Cards downed Dayton before falling to Illinois in Champaign in the first and second rounds of the tournament. Cards Win Postseason Honors Melanie McHenry, Wilma Rive- ra and Molly Sauer were awarded AVCA All America honorable mention status when the 38th annual AVCA Division I All-America Teams for women’s volleyball were revealed for 2018. The University of Louisville volley- ball team had three players also earn post- season honors as setter Wilma Rivera and libero Molly Sauer were named to the AVCA All-Region First Team with Melanie McHen- ry joining her teammates on the honorable mention list. It is the second time winning this honor for both Rivera and Sauer. Rivera Named ACC Setter of the Year Wilma Rivera’s second consecutive Setter of the Year honor marks the third time in the last four years the award has gone to a Lou- isville Cardinal, with Katie George receiving the honor in 2015. Rivera leads the ACC in assists per set with 11.12. She ranks second in the league with 1,212 total assists. McHenry, Rivera, Sauer Named First Team All-ACC Senior Wilma Rivera was named ACC Setter of the Year and joined the First Team All-ACC Squad with her teammates Melanie McHenry and Molly Sauer. McHenry was the offensive workhorse for the Cardinals on offense with 938 total attacks for 383 kills. She was second on team in digs with 245 and had 96 total blocks. She notched double digit kills in all but four matches. Rivera started every set of every match since trans- ferring from Penn State and leads ACC in assists per set. Preseason All-ACC, she has 4 double/doubles and has one or more aces in 18 matches. Rivera is ranked in 27th NCAA stats in assists/set and 33rd in total assists. Sauer is the only 4-time honoree on the first team. Second all-time in career digs at UofL, she had double digit digs in 25 matches, with high of 30 versus Purdue, ranked 15th and has been as high as 12th in career digs among NCAA active players. The 2015 and 2017 ACC Defensive Player of the Year had career 2,027 digs. Sloan and McHenry Earn All-Purdue Stacey Clark Classic Honors Megan Sloan and Jasmine Bennett earned all-tournament honors at Purdue. Sloan had 10 kills versus Lipscomb and 14 versus No. 19 Purdue, hitting .321 against the Boil- ers. McHenry had 49 kills in three matches including a 17 kill, 18 dig effort. Bennett Earns All-Florida Bubly Honors Jasmine Bennett hit .538 with three straight double digit kill tallies (10 vs. UC, 13 vs. No. 4 Florida and 10 vs. No. 7 USC) while adding 13 total blocks in those three matches to earn the all-tournament nod. Twenty Win Seasons With the win at Wake Forest, the Cards notched their 29th 20+ win season. 2017 was the Cardinals’ last 20+ win season. UofL has had five 30-win seasons. The 1982 season mark of 39-14 is the school record. Home Sweet Home The Cards are 11-3 in 2018 in Cardinal Arena overall and 7-2 in ACC play at home. (6-2 in Cardinal Arena and 1-0 at Sacred Heart Academy where the Notre Dame match was relocated after a power outage affected Cardinal Arena.) Sauer Ranked in Career Active Leaders Molly Sauer was ranked 15th and has been as high as 12th in career digs among active players. The 2015 and 2017 ACC Defensive Player of the Year had 2,027 career digs. Cards Earn AVCA Academic Honors The American Volleyball Coaches Associa- tion (AVCA) announced that the University of Louisville was one of 1,125 teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018- 2019 season. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. Cards Recruiting Class is Ranked The 2019 University of Louisville volley- ball recruiting class has been ranked No. 16 in the nation, the highest ranked class in the ACC and the highest ranking Cardinal class since 2006. The ranking was announced by PrepVolleyball.com, where a panel of college coaches from across the country and repre- senting all three NCAA women’s volleyball divisions determines the top list of classes. Libero Alexa Hendricks, rightside hitter Nena Mbonu, setter Shannon Shields, outside hit- ter Amber Stivrins, and middle blocker Amaya Tillman will all continue their volleyball careers at the University of Louisville. Cards Lead ACC in All-ACC Academic Winners Thirty-four Atlantic Coast Conference stu- dent-athletes were selected to the 2018 All- ACC Academic Volleyball Team, headlined by Syracuse’s Santita Ebangwese, the 2018 ACC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced today by the league office. The 2018 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team has 34 honorees, with 12 institutions represented.
