Gillespie scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half to help Nova complete a comeback from an 18-point first half deficit. He ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in assists (4.5 apg) and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.9). » Villanova climbed to No. 7 in this week’s Associated Press poll. The Wildcats were at No. 3 in the preseason poll, slipped to No. 12 in week two, and moved back into the Top 10 on Monday. VU checks in at No. 6 in this week’s USA Today Coaches poll. » This game is Villanova’s home opener after three games scheduled for Finneran Pavilion were either cancelled (Saint Joseph’s and Temple) or postponed (DePaul) due to COVID-19 issues within the program of their opponent. This is the latest date for a Villanova home opener since the 1992-93 season, when the Wildcats first home game was against Vermont on Dec. 22. It’s the first time the team will play as many as six games away from Villanova to open a season since 2003-04, when Nova played seven on road and neutral courts before hosting a game. » Friday night’s win at Georgetown was the 599th in the career of head coach Jay Wright (599-268). This is Wright’s 20th season at the helm at Villanova following a seven year stint at Hofstra (1994-2001). » Junior guard Caleb Daniels played a vital role in the win at Georgetown, knocking down 5-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc on the way to 18 points. The transfer from Tulane has started all six of the Wildcats’ games in 2020-21, averaging 27.5 minutes and 12.7 points per outing. The New Orleans native sat out 2019-20 as a redshirt after two seasons with the Green Wave. » Villanova has been without senior forward Dhamir Cosby- Roundtree (shin) and sophomore guard Bryan Antoine (right shoulder) thus far in 2020-21. There is not yet a projected return to action for either of the two Wildcats according to head coach Jay Wright. » This marks year three for the Wildcats in the Finneran Pavilion, which closed for renovations during the 2017-18 season. The Wildcats are 16-2 in the Finn over the last two campaigns, including 8-0 in 2019-20. » Next up for the Wildcats is a visit to Madison Square Garden to meet the 2019 NCAA champion Virginia Cavaliers.
