The two teams last met on December 15, 2018 at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan. That day Lagerald Vick scored 29 points for the No. 1-ranked Jayhawks and Kansas held off No. 17 Villanova 74-71. That game ended a three-game losing streak to the Wildcats for Kansas. Villanova had previously beaten the Jayhawks, 95-79, in a 2018 Final Four match-up in which the Wildcats advanced to play Michigan in the National Championship Game. Villanova also defeated Kansas, 64-59, in the Elite 8 in Louisville, Ky. to advance to the 2016 Final Four in San Antonio, Texas. » Villanova will retire the jerseys of Allan Ray (2002-06) and Jim Washington (1961-65) this afternoon as part of its Alumni Day. » Justin Moore earned BIG EAST freshman honors for a third straight week. He came off the bench to tally 16 points while helping the Wildcats defeat Delaware 78-70 at the Never Forget Tribute Classic at Prudential Center. Moore is averaging 12.6 points per game. » In the first decade of Jay Wright’s stewardship, Villanova was well known for the play of its guards 6-2 and under, men like Kyle Lowry, Allan Ray and Scottie Reynolds. This season, though, Villanova’s roster lists 12 of 14 players at 6-4 or taller. The only exceptions are guards Collin Gillespie (6-3) and Kevin Hoehn (6-1). » The Wildcats will return to action at Finneran Pavilion on Monday, December 30 when Villanova tips off the BIG EAST part of its schedule against Xavier at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised on FS1 and can be heard on 610 ESPN Radio.
