< Previous20 @UKFootball Jacksonville, Florida Welcome! Jacksonville is a young and modern city with equal parts Flori- da Flair and Southern Hospitality. Visiting Jacksonville is discovering a destination that offers authentic natural wonders, amazing dining, wonderful culture and great family friendly attractions. As the largest city in the continental U.S., Jacksonville is the perfect place to experience a new side of Florida. The abundant water- ways, parks and ecological preserves in Jack- sonville provide an unforgettable opportunity to escape the ordinary and relax in nature’s playground. Jacksonville proudly boasts the largest urban park system in the nation with more than 85,000 acres of parks, as well as 22 miles of white-sandy unspoiled beaches. All the natural beauty is surrounded by a modern and vibrant city filled with authentic dining options, thrilling attractions, world-class mu- seums, beautiful hotels, exciting events, cool nightlife, a hip Downtown and unique historic districts with entertaining options for visitors of all ages. We are the cool side of Florida and that is not referring to the weather From our unspoiled beaches, to the excit- ing Intracoastal Waterway and the sparkling St. Johns River, water defines this “River City by the Sea.” Work on your tan or get active, take surfing or kiteboarding lessons, rent kayaks and paddleboards, fish at the pier or rent a fishing charter boat at Jacksonville’s Beaches and stay at our oceanfront resorts and wake up every morning to amazing sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean. Less than 3 miles from the Beaches you will find the Intracoastal Waterway, 40 miles of peaceful canals and natural inlets where visitors can take an airboat ride and come face to face with the local wildlife, including dolphins, manatees and hundreds of bird species. In the heart of Downtown Jacksonville, the St. Johns River takes the spotlight, enjoy a brunch river cruise, walk the 3-mile River- Walk and visit the Riverside Arts Market, all while enjoying breathtaking views of our unique riverfront downtown skyline. Thanks to our extensive park system, green is Jacksonville’s color and adventure is our game! Just minutes away from Down- town Jacksonville, the city’s wild side flour- ishes at the Timucuan Ecological and His- torical Preserve. This 46,000-acre Preserve is made for those seeking a natural thrill. Swim, boat, hike, fish and enjoy historical sites like Fort Caroline National Memorial, often called Florida’s “Atlantis,” and Kings- ley Plantation, Florida’s last remaining Plan- tation-era house. Explore the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, with over 3,000 rare and exotic animal and plant species. Venture out to Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctu- ary and hand-feed lions and tigers and oth- er big cats. You can also let romance and adventure merge as you ride horses on our white-sandy beaches with Kelly Seahorse Ranch, one of the only places in Florida where it’s allowed. Jacksonville is consistently ranked as a Top 25 Arts Destinations in the nation. We have the best Symphony in Florida, a Mu- seum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), a Mu- seum of Science and History (MOSH), The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, a Broadway Series, one of the last remaining dinner theaters in the nation, The Alham- bra, and the oldest continuously operating community theater in the country, Theatre Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Jazz Festival, the second-largest jazz festival in the U.S., brings an impressive lineup of perform- ers and more than 130,000 jazz lovers to downtown Jacksonville each Memorial Day weekend. All year-long, from January to De- cember, there is something exciting to do in Jacksonville. Come explore Florida’s Natu- ral Water Wonderland! The UK HealthCare Mark Stoops Show Behind Kentucky Football SUBSCRIBE TO PODCASTS TODAY! SPORTS NETWORKSPORTS NETWORK22 @UKFootball Head Coach Mark Stoops When the Kentucky football team takes the field for the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl game, it will make official yet another milestone in the remarkable term of Mark Stoops as the Wildcats’ head coach. Stoops becomes the first coach in school history to take his team to five consecutive bowl games, adding to his lengthy and growing list of accomplishments during his eight years at UK. As a program, it matches the school record of five straight postseason appearances, accomplished 2006-10 under two head coaches. Even in this abbreviated season, Stoops added two more achievements: Kentucky’s win at Tennessee is the Wildcats’ first victory in Knoxville since 1984; and, the regular-season finale over South Carolina is Stoops’ 48th win at Kentucky, second only to the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant. A partial accounting of Stoops’ exploits also features: • Back-to-back bowl wins – the 2019 Belk Bowl and the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1, 2019 -- only the third time in school history UK had bowl wins in consecutive seasons; • First New Year’s Day Bowl win since 1951 (2018 season) • First 10-win season since 1977 (2018) • First SEC Coach of the Year since 1983 (2018) • First final poll ranking since 1984 (2018) 20-08091 MKT | JMI Football Yearbook Ad.indd 220-08091 MKT | JMI Football Yearbook Ad.indd 28/31/20 3:50 PM8/31/20 3:50 PM24 @UKFootball University of Kentucky Coaching Staff 26 @UKFootball Kentucky Roster No. Name Pos.
