< PreviousNEW C OMER Q&A: DRE BUTLER 61 Q: What is your favorite Auburn tradition? A: Tiger Walk is my favorite Auburn tradition. I love that the fans get to interact with the players as we prepare for the game. Hopefully we get to experience that again soon. Q: Who first put a football in your hand and how have they shaped your playing career so far? A: My mom got me into football and she is one of my biggest supporters. She has helped me get through everything and is always there for me. Q: Did you choose the No. 49, if so, why did you choose it? A: It was my high school number and I had the opportunity to have it again at Auburn so I took it. Q: Favorite pre-game snack? A: My favorite pre-game snack is a Rice Krispie Treat. Q: What are your biggest goals while you are here in the classroom, and on the field? A: My biggest goal academically is to graduate on time. On the field, I just want to be successful and win as many games as we can. Q: Which teammate has been the biggest role model so far? A: I wouldn’t say there is anyone in particular because they have all been big brothers to me and helped guide me through the transition from junior college to here. Q: If you could sit down and have dinner with any Auburn legend who would you want it to be and why? A: I would have loved to sit down with Pat Dye. I have heard so many great things about him. Even though I didn’t get the chance to meet him, my coaches talk about him all the time and I would have loved to meet him. Q: Do you have a favorite football memory from high school you would like to share? A: I played punter in high school and we had a fake punt one day. I almost scored, but sadly it was called back because of a penalty. It was still a fun moment for me regardless. Q: Do you have a favorite TV show or movie? A: My favorite movie is an old one from the early 90’s called South Central. It was one of my favorites growing up and still is now. Q: If you had a million dollars to donate to charity, where would you send it and why? A: I would donate it to children in foster care or placement. Q: If we made a movie about your life, what would you title it and who would you want to play you? A: I would title it “The Last Chance” and I would want either Samuel L Jackson, Denzel Washington, or Wesley Snipes to play me. Q: Do you have a favorite video game? Who do you play with? A: I play Call of Duty online with my friends back home. We’ll play multiplayer and War- zone, but sometimes I get tired of Warzone. If I have a good squad though I can play for hours. Q: What is one of your biggest life goals outside of football? A: To graduate from Auburn. That degree holds a lot of weight. You never know if you will make it or not in football, so it is very important to me to have that degree. Q: Favorite class so far? A: I’m enjoying the American Government class I’m in. Q: Where is your dream vacation and why? A: There is a place in Iceland called the Blue Lagoon. It looks stunning. I have always want- ed to go there or Dubai. Q: What is your go-to pizza topping? A: Pepperoni and Bacon, nothing else. NEWCOMER Q&A BY ADAM POLLARD A UBURNTI G ERS.C O M DRE BUTLER 2020 HOMEC OMING C OUR T 63 course, and that is how to communicate effectively. There were some intense but important exercises incorporated that I still reflect on daily. I know this class made me a more patient and clearer communicator, a skill that I will take with me for the rest of my life. Describe Auburn to someone who has never been here. Auburn is unlike any other place. There is a sense of hos- pitality and family as you walk around the campus. Auburn is warm and welcoming. Auburn means more than just football to every person who has stepped foot on the campus. Auburn is a place for students to be who they really want to be without hesitation or judgment. Auburn is a place of opportunity. Auburn is also a place of struggle and hardships, of successes and failures. Auburn has the strongest sense of community support and family I have ever known. Auburn is the reason I am here today, and I am forever grateful for this university and the memories it has provided me. KELSEY WYNNE HOMETOWN: DALLAS, TEXAS MAJOR/SCHOOL: ARCHITECTURE/COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION If you could play any position in football, what would you play and why? I think I’d have no choice but to be the kicker. I work well under pressure, but I don’t have the strength or speed for other positions. What is your major and what made you want to pursue it? I have always been a creative person that also excelled in math and science. When you combine that with a passion for travel, you’re led straight to architecture. I love getting to see initial ideas and needs be brought to life as the plans for a real building. What is your favorite Auburn tradition and why? Despite not being able to carry a tune, I love when the entire stadium sings the Alma Mater together after a football game. Win or lose, it’s a moment that really makes you feel included in the Auburn Family. If you could walk in someone else’s shoes for a day, who would it be and why? I’ve watched the Today Show with my mom every morning for as long as I can remember. I think I’d secretly love to be a host on the show for a day because I love meeting new peo- ple, and I also love to talk. They have such an important job of delivering the news and sharing the stories of everyday people with the entire country each day. What does it mean to be on the Homecoming Court? Being a Top 5 candidate for Miss Homecoming has been one of the most surreal experiences. I have gotten to know so many incredible people and have been blessed with an amazing group of supporters. I am so grateful for the chance to represent Auburn and an organization that is so important to me - Habitat for Humanity. What has been your favorite class at Auburn and why? This semester I am beginning to design my architecture thesis project under Professor Margaret Fletcher. Margaret was also my very first professor in 2016. To have her support, encouragement, and criticism as I complete one of the most challenging projects of my career, especially in our hybrid format, has been a great experience. Describe Auburn to someone who has never been here. Auburn is truly a home away from home. No matter where you come from, the people here do everything they can to make you feel welcome and included.
